This 2.2-mile loop in the foothills near Red Butte is not only scenic but also holds intriguing historical significance. The trail passes what was once a bustling quarry site for the red sandstone seen in many of Salt Lake City’s historic structures. You’ll come across the remains of the abandoned Quarry House where stone workers once resided. The sandstone extracted here initially served as the foundation for the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City. But it was eventually replaced with granite from Little Cottonwood Canyon due to its inability to bear the weight.

Getting there

The trail starts from Colorow Rd, the same trailhead as The Living Room hike near The Huntsman Foundation. There’s free 3-hour parking alongside the road.
